Reels/ No Retakes : The Garden Today
To show how the plants perform their bloom relay in my garden of super-diversity and super-density planting, I have been recording the entire garden in video twice a month. As the
title suggests, I do not splice together videos from different days to create a ‘best reel’. Each time, the video is captured entirely within that single day.
Families who visit this photo studio do not see the garden over two or three days; they all visit the studio for the photography of their family’s or children’s important 'Hare-no-hi'
(auspicious days of celebration that mark significant life milestones) on that one specific day. I began creating this garden so that all of them could enter the studio building by
passing through a cheerful garden, whether in the height of summer, the depth of winter, or any transition between seasons. What is contained in these videos is the result of months
and days of co-sustaining this garden between myself, a single human being, and one thousand varieties of plants.
